MyGov announced earlier this week that Indian citizens will soon be able to use MyGov’s Whatsapp help desk to use Digital Locker. This service will make it even easier to use Digi-Locker as you no longer need to use a separate application to quickly download and produce your original documents such as Aadhaar card, driver’s license and others.
This is how you can easily configure DigiLocker to work with your WhatsApp account. If you’ve never used DigiLocker before, read more here on how to set it up.
Step 1 – Save the MyGov WhatsApp Helpline number
Go to your phone’s dialer app and dial “9013151515”. Add this number to a new contact and save it under a name like MyGov or DigiLocker. Once the number is saved, you can easily find it on WhatsApp.
Step 2: Text the MyGov Helpline on WhatsApp
Open WhatsApp and hit the new chat button at the bottom right. On the next page, tap on the three-dot menu in the top right corner and choose ‘refresh’ to sync your WhatsApp contact list with your phone contacts. This should make the recently saved MyGov helpline number available among your WhatsApp contacts.
Tap the search bar at the top and type the name you saved the old number under; in this case,
I searched for “DigiLocker Service” and instantly found the number. Send a “Hello” to this number and the automated services will be activated in a few seconds.
Step 3: Set up your DigiLocker account to work with WhatsApp
A message that begins with a Namaste should greet you once you’ve sent a Hello message. Consider this automated message your main menu. You will see two clickable text items towards the end of this message, one for Cowin services and one for DigiLocker services.
Click on DigiLocker and follow the subsequent instructions similarly. If you don’t have a DigiLocker account, choose No. You will be prompted to link and verify your DigiLocker account by entering your 12-digit Aadhaar number, and an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. You will need to enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number without any spaces. This also applies if you have a Digilocker account.
Once you log in to the OTP, you will gain access to your account. You will be able to download the existing documents that are saved in the Digilocker. For example, if you have your driving license and PAN card saved, you can view them. You can also get Aadhaar details from the Digilocker.
At this time, the chatbot allows you to collect the following documents from Digilocker: PAN Card, Driver’s License, CBSE Class X Approval Certificate, Class X Qualification Sheet, Class XII Qualification Sheet, Vehicle Registration Certificate , two-wheeler insurance policy and insurance policy document (for life and non-life).
Once you’re done, you’ll be able to text the helpline number to get any of your DigiLocker documents when needed.
